For my birthday in Feb (2024) I wanted to treat myself to a spa day - I mean who wouldn't?!
I looked all over the UK and nothing really stood out, anything that did was over £200pp which just seemed extreme!
I had seen on tiktok that there is a spa in Bucharest that is supposed to be pretty good. When looking into it, it just looked AMAZING! This is where i want to spend my 22nd Birthday! From there everything fell into place and i had the BEST time!
We spent around £150pp, including flights, hotel, spa entry, all food and drink whilst we were there!
Lets get into it!!
Our Stay was for 1 night
We flew with Ryan Air from Stansted airport and the Hotel was booked through Booking.com
We stayed at La Boheme, 4 star Rated Hotel & 4.5 star Tripadvisor Reviews.
Our ratings:
Hotel? 10/10
Would we go back to Bucharest? YES!
Would we stay at that hotel again? YES YES YES!
Things we did? 9/10
Itinerary:
Travel to Bucharest
Spend day 1 at Therme
Head back to hotel to check in
Out for dinner
Day 2 look around the city
Home time :(
We didn't have much planned other than Therme and a restaurant booked for dinner so had lots of time on the Thursday before getting our flight home.
Travel:
We flew into Bucharest Otopeni on the earliest flight and got a Bolt transfer straight to Therme Bucharest. This took around 10 minutes and cost around £5 for 3 of us. The Bolts and Ubers pick you up in the car park opposite the Airport exit (nice and easy). Just as a note, you can order bolts straight off the app, its super simple to use!
After spending the day in the Spa, we then headed back to the hotel. We used another bolt to get there. It was around 30 mins drive due to traffic and cost about £11 for the 3 of us again.
Wandering around the city we just walked, but you could pay to use scooters or bikes or use bolts but everything we did was fairly close to our hotel. Everything is very easy to navigate.
Getting back to the airport we used another bolt as it was working so well for us. The guy that drove us was amazing, he was trying to get better with his English so we were helping him with questions and with words he was unsure of. Everyone was so friendly it genuinely was a lovely city. The bolt cost us £15 and took around 35 mins, straight to the departures at the airport. We took the afternoon/ evening flight home around 5pm so we would have time to explore the city a little.
Everything was so smooth, i will definitely be using bolt again. I've added some details below for you to take a look at.
Therme Bucharest:
The main event!
After travelling to Bucharest the first thing we did was head to Therme. Our plan was to spend the day at Therme and then go for food, but i was a little worried we would get bored. That wasn't the case AT ALL! I loved every second!
If you don't know about Therme, its a huge wellness centre in Bucharest. It's the Largest Spa in Europe!
Inside you have different mineral pools with swim up bars, different saunas, water slides, an outdoor pool and treatment areas.
When purchasing your tickets you have options of different ticket types, elysium gets you into every area (the ticket costs around £35 each) or you can pick one of the areas you would like, this is cheaper but we did the Elysium tickets so we could go everywhere.
When you're there you get a wrist band that everything you purchase goes on and you scan at the end to pay, so you don't have to worry about taking money with you.
You can hire towels, robes, slippers too!
Everything including food and drinks was so reasonably priced.
I don't want to go into too much detail as it will take away the magic for you, but if you get the chance to go you definitely should!
Hotel:
The hotel was STUNNING! From the outside it's really something special, its eye catching and not like anything i'd seen before. The inside was even nicer!
As there were 3 of us we had a room with an extra bed. I just assumed this would be a sofa bed or something simple. We had what looked like a whole apartment with 2 bedrooms. The amount of room we had was insane. All the decor was so lovely and the hotel provided you with EVERYTHING you needed. There were waters for free and a little snack bar you could pay a small fee for. In the bathroom there was lovely shampoos and conditioners, shower gel, cloths, Tooth brushes and Tooth paste, wellness bags - literally everything you could think of!
It was so clean and tidy and the staff were so kind. On the thursday morning we checked out and they even let us leave our bags so we could explore the city for a few hours without taking our rucksacks.
Little things like that make stays so much nicer!
The hotel did have its own restaurant but we didn't use this. It looked so lovely though, very posh!
100% would go back to this exact hotel!
Near by Resturants/ Bars:
On the wednesday night (for my actual birthday) we ate at Aveforchetta. The restuarant itself was so lovely. I wanted a nice place i could get cute birthday photos - sad i know! And it was only around a 15 min walk from the hotel.
The food here was really nice, i had the shrimp pasta and the others both had Pizzas.
It did feel a little rushed but it was pretty late, we didn't get to the restaurant until 8pm. All of the staff bar 1 spoke really good English which we were very grateful for, the only lady who didn't seemed new but she was still trying to be super helpful where she could.
Other places i had seen we were thinking about going for food were:
Trattoria Colosseum
Koko Bistro
Hanul Lui Manuc
MOM
Soro Lume
On the way to the restaurant there was also a few clubs that looked like good fun, they had great music one and everyone looked like they were having a great time. This was Control Club and a Bar next door to it was alt shift, both looked great!
For breakfast on the thursday we went to Bread and Butter. This was a bit more pricey but the food was lovely and so was the restaurant itself. We really enjoyed it here and would go back.
We also stopped off for a smoothie on our way back to the hotel at a small coffee shop called Benjoben. These are delicious and so well priced.
Things to do:
As we had some time on the Thursday we took a little look around the City. We went for breakfast first and then headed to the Umbrella Street. I loved this, it was so bright and colourful and i'd never seen anything like it.
We then found a small Museum called Muzeul Micul Paris (The Little Paris Museum). It was great seeing the history and french style that used to be around. It was good fun and actually had quite a bit to see.
After that we just took a stroll through the different streets, did a little souvenir shopping and headed back ready for pick up from our hotel by the Bolt.
We didn't get to do too much as we were limited on time. But i definitely want to re vistit bucharest.
When i return i would like to visit:
Palace of Parliament
Herăstrau Park
Museum of Senses (we love these little quirky museums, they're great fun)
And obviously head back to THERME!
There are also some lovely trips you can do too, some of the ones i would like to do in the future would be:
Dracula's Castle, Peles Castle and Brasov Day Trip
Salt mines
All in all i had a great 24 hours and will 100% be revisiting Bucharest in the future, hopefully this time for a little longer :)
